# What It Remembers

Memory holds standing facts about how you work, so you do not re-explain your
voice, your ICP and your naming conventions every week.

## Teaching It [#teaching-it]

Say it in a thread, or use the command:

```text
Remember: we say "buyers", never "prospects". Every post opens with a number.
```

```text
/surface remember we never use exclamation marks
```

Corrections count too. Tell it it got something wrong and the correction is
saved.

## Two Scopes [#two-scopes]

| Scope | Set with | Who sees it |
| ------------- | -------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------- |
| **Workspace** | *"Remember: …"*                  | Everyone in the workspace                       |
| **Channel** | *"Remember for this channel: …"* | Only that channel, for project-specific context |

<Note>
  *"Remember for this channel: this is the Q4 launch, the deadline is 3 Nov,
  Mahdin owns copy."*
</Note>

## Seeing and Deleting It [#seeing-and-deleting-it]

Open SAM's **Home** tab in Slack. **What I remember about you** lists every
note with a **Forget** button. Or ask: *"What do you remember about us?"* /
*"Forget the old ICP note."*

Forget is permanent.

## Memory vs the Vault [#memory-vs-the-vault]

|            | Use for                                                                     | Lives in                                             |
| ---------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------- |
| **Memory** | Short standing facts about how you work: voice rules, naming, who owns what | SAM's own notes, per workspace or channel |
| **Vault** | Documents worth keeping: an ICP, a positioning cut, a research write-up | Your Surface Vault, as dated Markdown under `slack/` |

An answer that's a document gets a **Save in Vault** button under it. One click
files it in your Vault, and SAM reads the Vault before every future draft.

<Info>
  In a [Slack Connect channel](/platform/sam/shared-channels), only your
  own team can leave SAM standing instructions. Guests can ask questions;
  nothing they say outlives the conversation.
